On April fool’s day 2008, Peter Fane, Managing Director, opened the doors of Nurture for business with just three other members of the team. The strategy was simple:

Focus on landscape maintenance for the corporate and private sector to build long-term income streams and security;

Offer best in class customer service delivered by permanent staff who invest time to understand clients’ business;

Champion care for the environment.

The team hit the phones and knocked on doors, using their extensive network of contacts built over the previous years.

“The recession presented an unexpected opportunity as companies looked to reduce costs and overheads. We were young, nimble and cost-efficient so much more flexible than our competitors”.

Nurture has always had a major focus on organic growth by winning new work through its National Sales team. Over £10 million of new landscape maintenance work has been won since opening its doors on 1st April 2008.

In addition to organic growth Nurture has made a number of selective acquisitions of family based companies in order to widen its geographical footprint across the UK, three of which are profiled below.

The Olympic year 2012, proved to be a record-breaking year for Nurture with their largest acquisition to date. Blackburn-based Parkview Landscapes Ltd provided strategic expansion into the north of England and Scotland with six new depots added to the network enabling better coverage of the ever growing client base.

In October 2014, the commitment to Scotland was reinforced with the acquisition of JMK Groundcare Ltd based near Kilmarnock. As well as established landscape maintenance contracts for the corporate sector and housing associations, the acquisition strengthened Nurture’s gritting and snow clearance operations.

In November 2015, as sign of its increasing status in the market, Nurture acquired the staff and assets of Integritas Landscapes from Securitas UK Ltd. More than 100 staff joined the company swelling employee numbers to more than 400 and boosting annual sales to over £25 million.

Nurture has come a long way since 2008, going from a four person team to a national contractor working through a regional network of offices and depots. Clients benefit from a consistent local team committed to a quality service and are able to draw upon the skills and expertise across a National company.

Landscape maintenance remains the core service with a diverse client base including business parks, retail parks, corporate headquarters, sports facilities, hotels and schools. Winter gritting and snow clearance keep clients’ sites open and safe for staff and visitors whatever the weather. Nurture works inside buildings as well as outside, ranging from interior planting to hanging baskets for corporate, leisure and retail clients.
